Youth Activities: We understand that the future of our club as well as the stewardship of the natural resources we care about will eventually fall to the hands of today’s youth. Therefore, we make an effort to encourage our youth members to participate in as many of our activities as possible. Additionally, we lead and participate in as many youth-focused activities outside the Club as our members can support. Specific examples follow. If you know of an activity that we can do to support today’s youth please bring it to the attention of the Club leadership.
Lifetime Youth Licenses: The State of Maine has a Lifetime Youth License program similar to its Senior Lifetime License Program that permits the parents, grandparents, and others to purchase a license at significantly reduced prices for young people ages 1-5 and 6-15 that entitles them to pursue fishing, hunting, and trapping activities for the remainder of their lives. Each license costs between $150-$300. The Club has awarded 2-4 Lifetime licenses a year depending upon the age of the child and available funds. Members can nominate a blood relative once a year to participate in a lottery for the license.

Kids Ice Fishing Derby: The Club supports the annual Rotary Club Kids Ice Fishing Derby, usually held at Range Pond State Park in Poland Springs, ME during the local schools’ mid-winter break…in 2015 it was March 8th, 8AM -Noon. The Club has a long history of supporting this event doing everything from rigging tip up ice traps, drilling holes through the ice, setting up bait stations on the ice, baiting hooks and setting up traps. Recently we set up a fish cleaning station next the access point to the pond and have cleaned fish free of charge for any angler needing the service.
Shooting Club: The Club hosts two youth shooting clubs at our basement range. These small-bore competitive shooting clubs teach high school and older children proper marksmanship; safety; firearms handling, transportation, and storage; and, good sportsmanship as they compete with other like-aged kids teams around the state. We provide a safe, warm and supervised environment for them to develop their shooting skills. Their adult leaders are members of the club.
