Gun Range

The club has a 50 foot shooting range in the basement. It has 4 shooting lanes. Rifles are limited to 22LR. Pistols may shoot up to 45 ACP.

A small bore rifle (.22 cal) and pistol caliber 50-25-foot range is located in the basement. There are four shooting positions, each with an independently controlled target holder that can be brought forward or sent down range by individual shooters as needed by use of control wheels mounted on the wall behind the shooting line. All shooters must wear protective eye wear and hearing protectors when using the range. Additional range rules are listed below.

Range Opening, Use, Guest Policy, and Closing Procedures
Opening Range:

  •  Open the lockbox on the Range door using the four digit cipher to get the key/ open the door and immediately return the key to the lockbox, close the sliding door, and spin off the cipher combination. If you have been issued an electronic range access card simply swipe the card over the reader while holding your hand on the door knob. When the cipher light turns green immediately push in on the door.

  • Turn the range lights on using the switches left of the door and the power panel on the far wall—that will also start the exhaust fan at the down range location

  • Sign in on the range use book (MANDATORY), close the internal door to aid in sound attenuation.

  • Use only approved ammunition. Current approved calibers are .22, .25, .32, .38, .380, 9MM, .40 cal, 45 ACP. Those with .357 magnums can shoot them with .38 ammo. Frangible or lead ball (target /wad cutter) ammunition is preferred to save wear and tear on the backstop and reduce chance of ricochet.

Range Operating Hours are no earlier then 8:00 AM and no later then 8:00PM Monday through Friday and weekends including all holidays

You are your own safety officer, the first member to open the range is the Safety Officer, if in a group appoint a member to this position, if you are there with others you do not know, challenge them to ensure they are members or accompanied by a member and inform them you are the Safety Officer (there should be no non-members there unescorted).  Should you encounter this situation ask them who authorized them to be there then ask them to leave immediately.  Report this information to Fred Gallant. If you depart prior to the remaining shooters, one of the remaining members must accept responsibility for Safety Officer, if not, the range will be closed and cleared before you leave.

Acting Safety Officers control what goes on at the range at all times,  their word is final,  non-compliance will result in immediate termination of that shooting session and may result in revocation of Club membership and privileges

The Safety Officer will ensure

  • That all shooters are authorized and using the allowed caliber ammunition and bullet construction
  • Hearing and eye protection is available and worn
  • Paper targets are used and suspended from the clips provided,  bullet impacts are within the steel baffle area down range. Do not shoot overhead light protectors or short shooting target frame.

  • No one goes down range until all shooters acknowledge the range is cold and all weapons are unloaded and grounded (placed on the shooter tables and remain untouched)

Guest Policy:

Members can safely shoot and supervise one guest within the confines of the range. If you have more than one guest one must remain outside the immediate range area i.e. outside the closed range door. Once one guest has fired and the range is safe the guests can exchange places and firing can commence. If there is another member shooting on the range AND they agree to supervise the second guest then two guests plus the host can shoot at the same time. Members are advised to pay strict attention to the actions of minors and inexperienced shooters.

Close Range

  • Ensure all weapons are cleared safe and packaged for transport; box up any remaining live ammo

  • Clean up all spent casings, targets, and empty ammunition containers and  use the broom, shovel and containers provided to police your brass,  return borrowed hearing and eye protectors to the rack, sweep down range trap area as well,  tickle the range contribution box with a couple of bucks for targets and range operations. Sign out of the log book.

  • Turn off all fans and lights, lock the door by turning the switch on the back of the door knob, pull it closed and check it is secure, confirm you returned the key to the lockbox if you used it and that you have spun the cipher combination off the lockbox.

  • Take all your personal belongings with you

Strict compliance with the above procedures will ensure continued range usage for all, failure to comply will put ALL members’ privileges at risk!!!!
