\Membership in the Windham-Gorham Rod and Gun Club represents a broad cross section of US citizens 18 years of age and older who care about passing on to our succeeding generations the opportunity to enjoy the abundant natural resources of Maine through lawful participation in outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and bird watching among others. Resident aliens can be full members with approval of the Board.
Full membership is achieved by completing four sequential actions. The first is to complete a membership application and submit the application with a non-refundable $15 application fee to our Treasurer, Richard Southard Jr. 269 Highland Cliff Road, Windham Maine 04062.
Once the application is received and reviewed the second action is that the applicant will be scheduled for an interview with a Membership Review Committee, often meeting during regularly scheduled meeting nights. The interview seeks to match the desires of the individual with the needs of the Club.
The third action occurs once the interview has been completed and the successful candidate is referred to the membership at large at a regularly scheduled meeting with the recommendation of the committee. A vote on extending membership to the candidate completes the third step. With a successful vote the candidate will be sworn in and the candidate becomes a probationary member.
The final step is when the probationary member completes six hours of service to the Club during his/her first year of membership. There are many opportunities for probationary members to assist the Club throughout the year, particularly during fund raising events.
All members pay annual dues with the exception of members who will reach the age of 70 or above during the coming year and have been continuous members of the Club for the preceding ten years. Additionally, the Club Board may elect to award honorary membership to Maine government personnel with whom the Club wishes to maintain a close relationship for the good of the Club such as the Governor, the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W), IF&W biologists and wardens, IF&W Advisory Board Members, etc. Dues amounts are set each September during an all-membership meeting and become due the second week in January but no later than the second week of February.
