ABOUT US
Our Club meets twice a month in the winter, October through June, and once a month during the summer, July-September. We meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 :30 PM for the business meeting and 6:30 PM for the social meetings which normally include a dinner and a presentation by a speaker. Meetings take place at the Club house, 8 Tow Path Road, Gorham 04033.
The first meeting of the month is the business meeting to discuss Club business including coming events, fund raisers and voting in new members.
The second meeting is a more informal social meeting usually featuring potluck dinners and a speaker. Speakers are experts in outdoor activities, government representatives of related departments such as Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Department of Marine Resources or Conservation and association representatives such as the National Rifle Association and Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine. We also have speakers come from professional hunting and fishing backgrounds.
Please check the calendar to verify if we have a meeting. We do try to keep it updated as far as events and meeting times.

MISSION STATEMENT
The objectives of this organization are to maintain and hand down to future generations that special heritage of the rod and gun we have received from the pioneer hunters and fishermen and women of Maine, to encourage the youth of our locality to love and to enjoy the recreations of outdoor life, and with them, to foster and develop a higher appreciation of the natural attractions of wood and stream in this area, to encourage proper protection of fish, game and birds and the preservation of their natural homes, to uphold the statutes of Maine as related to the conservation of wildlife and to help mold and develop public sentiment to this end. |
HISTORY
The Windham-Gorham Rod and Gun Club was founded on August 23, 1949 with 100 founding members, our current membership numbers about 65. Our goal then, as it is now, is to pass along to future generations the Maine hunting and fishing heritage of our forefathers. We have evolved from a group of people who enjoyed such varied activities as boxing, horseshoes, track events and swimming to the hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing, kayaking, canoeing and shooting activities that we pursue today. Early fundraising efforts included raccoon treeing trials and Beano games. Now we pursue gun shows, raffles and a Cumberland County Fair booth and pull tab games of chance. Early funds went to procure the Redmens Hall building site as a club house at 8 Tow Path Road, Gorham. Charter members such as Jake Noble, after whom the club house hall was recently renamed , donated their time, labor and construction skills and materials to build the current building complete with a 50-foot indoor range. Today we use our funds for club house maintenance and operations. We also award, by lottery, a Youth Lifetime Hunting, Fishing and Trapping licenses to children who are nominated by members. The Club used to raise over 3000 pheasants a year for the State of Maine pheasant program, raising them from 6-week old chicks to 20-week old adults. Today we are still active in the program working with other clubs and assisting the State in procuring adult birds and helping to distribute them over 21 properties in Cumberland and York Counties. For other activities the current club is involved in and range information select the Activities or Facilities buttons. |
