Last social meeting we hosted a Sportsman's Forum. Judy Camuso, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife was guest speaker.
Dinner was at 6:30 PM, followed by your opportunity to discuss the future of sporting traditions in Maine.  Our own Bob Chapin provided a list of likely questions. We had great attendance for the event. Guest had an opportunity to speak with the director of an agency responsible for preserving and protecting Maine's fisheries and wildlife resources.

Smelting trip enjoyed by a couple of club members.
Here are a couple of pictures from a smelting trip to Jim's Camps in Bowdinham. The pictures are of Jerry Murray and  Larry Berberich. Larry was high man in our cabin with about 26; second was my friend Richie Rhoads from Sebago Lake Angler's Assn with about 24; then me with about 12 then Jerry with about 8. Fished 2:30 PM until about 8PM at nearly high tide to start then an outgoing tide for the duration. Bait was a combo of sand and earth worms. Hand jigging with a Sabiki-style rig worked best within 24" of the bottom.
LD1500 is law!! "An act to protect and promote access to sport shooting ranges"!

(R, Gorham) speaking at the January social meeting.

The main topic was LD 1500, which is proposed state legislation concerned with protecting club shooting ranges from local government interference.  There has been much in the news on this subject lately, particularly the struggles of our friends at the Spurwink Rod and Gun Club. His talk was very interesting, pertinent and lively.
